If you're looking for a peaceful place, but not too quite for your weekend holiday, Vung Tau might be the ideal destination. Not only famous with and for seafood and fresh air, it's also well-known with some beautiful and original attractions. Below, I have listed 3 places to visit in Vung Tau and if you have a chance to visit Vung Tau, don't miss my recommendation.
Located on the top of the small mountain the statue was built in 1974 and completed in 1993. The statue is 32 meters high, standing on a 4 meter high platform with two outstretched arms spanning 18.3 meters, and it is reportedly one of the tallest statues of Christ in Asia.
If you're planning to visit the statue, you should go early in the morning and bring a lot of water because it will be sunny from 10am till 3pm and you will have to climb 800 steps to reach the top, plus 133 steps inside the statue.
Note: From the hydrofoil you can walk to the base of the mountain or get a taxi. However, I prefer walking as it's not far and we can take photos of the seaside.
Thích Ca Phật Đài Temple
Lies to the northwest of the big mountain. The "Thich Ca Phat Dai" Temple was built between 1961 and 1963 on a plot of land around five hectares. On the way to the temple, you will see various statues that depict important events in the life of Gautama Buddha.
Note: The "Thích Ca Phật Đài" temple is quite far from the hydrofoil and my recommendation is to get a taxi. You should pay about 120-150k at most. If you stay at a hotel, you can ask them for a motorbike or mountain bikes to rent. It will be cheaper and more convenient if anything else catches your eye.
"Monkey Pagoda" in Phuoc Hai, Ba Ria Vung Tau.
The monkey pagoda is located at the base of Minh Đạm Mountain. It's real name is "Thiền Viện Chơn Nguyên". It's not only famous for the hundreds of monkeys that are hanging out, but also for the green trees and stone statues. Twice a day, at around 9:30am-10am and 3:30pm-4pm the monkeys come to the pagoda and look for food, therefore you should arrange your time accordingly if you're planning to visit this place.
Note: It's quite far from the hydrofoil (about 35-40kms) and getting a taxi will cost a pretty penny. Therefore, the best way to get there is to rent a motorbike, and don't forget to bring fruit to feed the monkeys.
That was all that I had time during my last weekend trip! Now, it's your turn to tell us your 3 places to visit in Vung Tau. Just take a minute and leave us your recommendation.
